Welcome to our new members who joined us on Saturday!  We hope you will enjoy the training sessions and programs offered by our trainers.  Our dog show is on 13th July 2019.  We would love to see you enter!

CLUB ACTIVITY

Our club has been booming with many new members joining, as well as our regulars.  It is quite amazing to watch all the trainers give so much of themselves to you – our member!  We hope you are enjoying the training and any suggestions will be welcomed!

May month was filled with events, the best being our annual quiz and potjie.  This year we surpassed all numbers with Sam formulating the quiz questions played by the 30 Seconds game rules, which was quite entertaining!  The potjie was definitely the highlight of the afternoon.  There was much hustling and bustling with members mumbling under their breath, concentrating squarely on the task – that of making an awesome potjie.  Before we flung potjie pots open due to near starvation, the cooks stood back and presented awesome traditional potjie.  We ate lamb, beef and chicken with rice and samp, and potato and bacon potjie, followed by the most tantalizing dessert.  The potjie later turned into a bonfire and then calm settled with muted voices and the usual sherry passed around until well into the night.  Thank you to everyone for this true show of camaraderie!  The Pretoria Shepherd Dog Club – a family club!

Gypsy Girl and Georgi Girl participated in the sheepdog trials in Dullstroom a couple of weeks ago.  Gypsy Girl was well placed coming 2nd in four competitions, and Georgi Girl earned a 4th competing with 12 other dogs! Well done, girls!

Last month we highlighted members who have young businesses.  Here are few more up and coming entrepreneurs:

Louiza makes anything beaded – contact her on 083 227 5477

Annatjie makes blankets and bakes preservative-free dog treats – 083 379 7918

Please support these ladies!!!

Our dog show comes up on the 13th July   It is an in-house show, which highlights the members and their dogs’ obedience abilities.  We have several categories.  Please discuss this with your trainer.  You can only enter one category.  Only club members are allowed to compete.

Jaco Malan will be giving a scentwork demonstration on Saturday, 22nd July.  There will be one training class for everyone who does not want to participate or spectate.  Please let your trainer know if you are participating, spectating or want an obedience class.

Samantha does wonderful volunteer work at Pretoria Dog Rescue.  Please chat to her should you want to join her or give donations.  Donations are always welcome, especially during the winter months.

DOES YOUR DOG KNOW WHEN HE IS BEING CUDDLED BY A BLANKET AND HOW DOES HE SHOW IT?

Leo is an absolute snuggle bug and has four different blankets on my best just for him.  He gets depro if he doesn’t have his teddys and his blankets at night…  I end up only having one blanket.

CHRIS HERBST

My babies sleep on the bed with me keeping us all warm and love the snuggles.  Their beds are for daytime use only.

GLORIA WEGNER

When Dingo is cuddled under his blanket, he makes snorting noises – quite cute!

A PET’S 10 COMMANDMENTS

1.My life is likely to last 10-15 years.  Any separation from you will be painful.

2.Give me time to understand what you want from me.

3.Place your trust in me.  It is crucial for my well-being.

4.Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up for punishment.  You have your work, your friends, family, entertainment, but I have only you.

5.Talk to me.  Even if I don’t understand your words.  I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6.Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7.Before you scold me, before you strike me, remember I could hurt you.  Yet I choose not to bite you.

8.Before you scold me for being uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.  Perhaps I am not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9.Please take care of me when I grow old.  You too, will grow old.

10.On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please.  Never say you can’t bear to watch.  Don’t make me face this alone.

11.Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I LOVE YOU.

WE DON’T HAVE TO WAIT FOR HEAVEN TO BE SURROUNDED BY HOPE, LOVE AND JOYFULLNESS.  IT IS HERE ON EARTH AND HAS FOUR LEGS!!!

We train with treats and comfortable waist treat bags are for sale from Ruben on Saturdays.  They are R110 each and the small treat bag is R70 – stock is limited.  Leashes are R70.

MAINTENANCE

The grounds look spic ‘n span, thanks to Elvis and his hard-working team, although in summer we can hear the grass grow growing and manicured grounds are not always possible.   We need assistance with maintenance and improvements.  All members will be sent a notice to assist.  We wish to put together a 1-day work party, followed by a bring ‘n braai.  The club hasn’t had a work party get-together for a long time, and we look forward to spending time with you!
